DMC Open House 2005
June 10-12, 2005
First off, I want to say a big Thank You to Stephen, James, Warren, and
the whole DMCH staff for putting on a really great open house.
The event began on Friday with check-in and registration packet pickup
at the Sofitel Hotel. From there we went to a reception at the DMC Houston
headquarters, where we heard original DMC Chief Engineer, Bill Collins,
talk about the development of the DeLorean prototype sitting on jack stands
next to him in the showroom.
Saturday morning we were back at the DMC Houston headquarters for warehouse
tours by James, technical seminars by Stephen, and a show of cars by many
of the owners. The DeLorean Concours, (sponsored by DMC (Texas), PJ Grady
and the DeLorean Motor Center) had 4 fine examples in the competition
I sat out judging this time around after being head judge in Pigeon Forge.
My idea for each judge having an assistant has become the standard now
and really speeds the process. There was also a "People's Choice"
event, won by the Westers and their screaming yellow 'D' and its matching
trailer.
Saturday night was the dinner and awards ceremony with a talk by Dixon
Hollinshead, who worked to build the factory in Belfast. He showed photos
and videos that have never been seen before.
What I enjoy the most about these events is the people. I love to listen
to everyone's stories and see how they became part of the amazing world
of the DeLorean. Each night, many folk sat in the hotel lobby late into
the night and talked.. Me included.
